A few days ago I’m buying the new domain name http://vishnuvalentino.com …. i’m trying to migrate my wordpress blog into that domain from my old subdomain http://vishnuval.lenmarc.com. When I move all my WP files, my blog won’t work!!….when i checked the database, wordpress save all of the permalinks in database, so when i changed my domain to http://vishnuvalentino.com it won’t work because the permalinks in database still my old domain name…
My Blog cannot be accessed about 5 hours at December 2,2009 from 01:00PM GMT +7 until 06:00AM GMT+7 it’s because the domain name has not been updated yet in database
.
That event make me create a little plugin for Wordpress named Wordpress domain changer.
Here’s brief introduction of my first Wordpress Plugin – Wordpress Domain Changer.
Introduction
Wordpress Domain Changer helps administrator to move his blog into another domain without knowing the SQL query. Just 1 click install plugin and activate, you can use this tools easily.
The feature of this tools is as follows :
- Move domain name e.g : http://olddomainname.com into http://newdomainname.com easily.
Requirements
This plugin was tested using Wordpress 2.7.1 and 2.8.6, so it should work on any recent Wordpress 1.5+ version to the latest version. If you are using an older version, I recommend that you to upgrade to the latest version.
Installation
Only 3 Steps :
1. Download the Zip file and extract everything and put them into your /wp-content/plugins/ directory. Activate the plugin from the Plugins menu in WordPress administration page.
2. Go to Domain Name Changer menu under the Settings tab, and insert your old domain name into the textbox (don’t forget to insert the http:// before your old domain name) and then insert your new domain name (don’t forget to insert the http:// before your new domain name)
3. Move all your Wordpress folder and database to your new domain, and open your new domain name in your browser. That’s it
.

thx..
walopun blon punya blog.. tapi kayany berguna banget
hahaha….iya…soalnya kmrn sempat kewalahan pas blog nya mati….tp harusnya sesudah ada tools ini bisa lebih gampang buat migrasi nama domain di wordpress
Is this only for same host move?
nope….you can move with different host too
because wordpress save all the links in their table, and if you didn’t update it when you move your blog into another host your blog won’t work. If you get any problem, you can ask here
Is Can use the plugin to Change “Folder the Blog” ?
from :
http://www.site.com/wordpress
to
http://www.site.com
—–
What is solution with links site ?
thanks
yes….you also can use for that purpose….
if your address is http://myblog.com/wordpress, then your WP file is under the public_html/wordpress. After changing your URL, then you can move your WP file inside public_html/wordpress into public_html/ and everything should be okay…and don’t forget to update your theme too.
Hi there
Thanks for the plug-in; it’s exactly what I needed. However, when I click the Update Doman Name I get the following message:
You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.
Any idea?
Thanks!
@Adam,
sorry for the error….I still confused when using SVN…(still learning) so there’s an error when I throw the value. You can edit the plugin and find options-general.php?page=domain-changer and replace that with options-general.php?page=wordpress-domain-name-changer hope this will help…
tell me if it’s works =)
now I’ve update the plugin so it can be use without any error.
Fantastic, simple, useful plugin. Bravo!
I cannot move my-wp set up from http://www.eticha.dk/03artikler to http://www.eticha.dk
It does not work at all
I am customer at “Surftown” web-hotel……
Best regards
hans
hmmm…..this plugin should can do that….are you forget to put http:// before your domain name? Because it’s a must to put http before the www.
If you still get the error….perhaps you can follow my step by step to solve Domain Name Changer Error problem Jensen

Dear Jensen,
Have a nice Christmas too…and have a nice holiday :-)

i want to move
http://www.omzview.com
to
http://www.theworldweliveinblog.com
both are hosted with different companies.
can i jus download the entire folder via ftp and juz upload it. cuz when i do that the new site says error establishing connection to database
thanku soo much.
Dear Omer,
yes it can….
you also can use this plugin for change the domain with the different host….
Below is the step by step you must do to move that:
1. Use the domain name changer plugin and in your old domain name insert “http://www.omzview.com” (without the quote) and in your new domain name insert “http://www.theworldweliveinblog.com” (without the quote).
2. Backup your wordpress database using PHPMyAdmin
3. Backup your wordpress file in your public_html folder
4. Copy your wordpress file into new host, and the last
5. Import your blog database using PHPMyAdmin.
Voila…just access your new domain http://www.theworldweliveinblog.com..
Hope it help =)
hey v4l,
well thanku soo much for ur feedback but it didnt work, n now my old site as well as my new site are both f’d up.. and now i cant even get back into the wordpress admin area.
and smartass that i am, i dont have no backups of anything..
if u have the time please give my page omzview.com and help me out. what i did was, instead of transfering the host, i hosted the new domain on the old hosting server. in which case all i needed to do was point the new domain to the same folder hosting the old website, but now after running your plug in everything is mixed up without any access to the wordpress admin area, which is the only place i know.
u know what … i dunt think i put in http:// befor the links …. cud that be a reason. and now that it is …. what do we do to fix the problem.
thanku
figured it out… everything working now.. thanks alot.\
hehe…okay…nice to know if it’s work…for troubleshooting you can open this tutorial error-when-using-domain-name-changer-wordpress-plugin
Hey I am trying to move my blog, and use your plug in to do it, but I guess I grossly misunderstand the instructions.
I copied the entire blog to the new hosting site, but I cannot even login to use your plug in because when I log it, it logs me into the old site…so perfect the copy is…
SO how do I use your plug in? if I cannot even login?
Dear jc,
which part that you dont understand? =)
if you just copy your blog into the new one, it won’t make change…because wordpress save all of the links in database…
before you move your blog you can refer to the visual step by step in this page =) if there’s any problem or you didn’t understand you can ask me…perhaps I can help you…or you can refer to this page http://www.vishnuvalentino.com/plugins/error-when-using-domain-name-changer-wordpress-plugin
